Dressing for summer

Dressing for summer

...when you live in the UK!

Bikinis, flip flops, kaftans... shopping for summer is one of our favourite activities but let's face it - how often do we really need these so called 'summer essentials' here in the UK?! Although we live in eternal hope of that full sunshine icon popping up on the weather forecast, more often than not we're faced with a slightly chillier outcome. In reality, dressing for British summer is all about chic layering and adaptable pieces that can take you from arctic to tropical and back again all in the same week. Here we bring you our guide to nailing real British summer style when the sun refuses to comply...

Pac a mac (or a kimono)

Number one on our British weather shopping list is the all essential jacket. For those rainy (somehow usually weekend) days, look no further than Warehouse's classic yellow rainmac which also comes in navy, red or neutral stone. Next up is Topshop's colour drench trench. Not only will this statement piece keep the summer breeze at bay, it also ticks some major fashion boxes with its colour popping pink. And for those warmer evenings when the sun does decide to show its face we'll be draping this super chic H&M kimono over our shoulders and sipping on an Aperol Spritz...

Jump to it

Jumpsuits are a great addition to any summer wardrobe. Both adaptable and chic, they're a great investment to take you through from warmer days to colder nights. Whistles and Warehouse have got us pining for their floral overalls and we'll be layering Oasis' strappy version with a slogan t-shirt and oversized blazer for a so-right-now take on the look.

Summer trousers

Even when the weather's warm enough, awakening your legs from their winter hibernation can be a daunting prosepect for anyone. Save yourself the fake tan and plump for a pair of summer trousers instead.

Accessorize it

When the weather's unreliable, layering is essential. Invest in some quality accessories like this lightweight scarf and pretty woven pumps and you'll never be caught short when the sun disappears!
