Bristol Fashion Week SS17 trend report: Denim

Denim daze

The last few seasons have seen the catwalks awash with denim and the trend showed no signs of abating for SS17. From Carolina Herrera to Red Valentino designers made denim the star fabric of their collections and the high street is following suit. While jeans never go out of fashion, those in the know will be wearing their denim in shirt, jacket and even dress form this Spring. While some designers ventured in to denim as eveningwear the trend on the high street is resolutely informal with a focus on the contrast of light and dark, fraying, frills and volume.

Embroider it

Warehouse, £75

Embroidery's everywhere this season so tick all the trend boxes with this little gem from Warehouse. Denim jackets are the perfect transitional piece for Spring- layer it up now and wear as a shirt then shrug it over your shoulders when the sun comes out. You'll live in this all year so when you consider your CPW (cost per wear) it's basically free!

Dip your toe in

River Island, £45

It's not just clothing- denim accessories are everywhere right now. These River Island sandals are our top pick for Spring. To avoid the Justin-and-Britney-at-the MTVs look wear with brights, metallics or whites.

Dress it up

Fat Face, £49.50

Dresses are a really accessible way of trialling the head to toe denim look. Right now layer pinafore styles over knitwear thenb for high summer keep cool in lightweight chambray finishes.

Get ripped

H&M, £34.99

Jeans are a wardrobe staple but look to the details to bring yours up to date for SS17. Wider, slouchier styles are the more directional cut but dress for your shape and you won't go wrong. Whatever the style look for patching, panelling, fraying and frills to show your fashion credentials this spring.
