New Season Now: What to buy for SS17

New Season Now: What to buy for SS17

It may be arctic outside but where fashion's concerned it’s never too early to start looking ahead to the new season! If you have gift vouchers or holiday cash to spend, invest wisely in some of the hottest trends that everyone will be wearing by spring. Here are some of the key looks we predict you’ll be sporting come 2017; buy now, feel smug later!

Whilst generally a summer appropriate trend, gingham hit the catwalks in a big way and was shown by last season’s Bristol Fashion Week host, Henry Holland. This trend is set to be big news for 2017, but not the way you think – cowgirl connotations are moved aside as gingham takes on a chic new persona. Wear a gingham shirt with straight leg jeans for an easy way to work the trend, or chose an off the shoulder blouse to nail transitional dressing. Basically, if you spot any gingham pieces in the sale – grab them!

Hot Pink

Sorry shrinking violets, you’ll need to step into the spotlight because fuchsia is where it’s at this season. Pale pink was a big hit a couple of seasons ago, but this time we are turning up the colour dial and embracing this hot hue. Go all out in a velvet jacket for pure glamour, or, if you aren’t quite as brave, pack a punch with a bright shoe, scarf or handbag. Still too much? A fuchsia lipstick is your entry point into the trend.

It might be a little cold for bare heels now, but mules are showing no signs of going away. The slip on style has been interpreted in so many ways – from backless, fluffy loafers at Gucci to simple slip on styles at Celine. Block heeled, stiletto heeled, even trainer versions – for 2017, backless shoes are the way forward! Shop sale styles and wear now with glittery ankle socks!

High Heels

We’ve been comfortably wearing our block heels for the last couple of seasons, but 2017 heralds the return of the stiletto. High heeled boots and shoes make any outfit look chic and elegant, but if you can’t walk in heels or find them uncomfortable, don’t panic! Trainers are still a key trend for the spring and embellished and logoed styles will be particularly in demand. If you spot any stilettos, they are a great buy to ensure you’ll be walking tall come the new season.

Velvet has been key for the winter season and whilst it is often considered to be a seasonal fabric, it works just as well for cold January days – it’s all about how you style it. Chose a simple velvet t shirt to instantly luxe up a pair of jeans, or slip a velvet cami dress over a lightweight polo neck jumper for a smart but fun office look. Embellished velvet is perfect for parties and nights out, and look for the fabric in unusual shades; taupes and dark greens are so easy to wear with neutrals and make a very evening appropriate fabric suitable for day.
